The Fingal Centre held a special series of events to mark International Women’s Day on 8th March. Those attending were treated to pampering and relaxation workshops, as well as sessions in image consultancy.

European Week Against Racism 2012

This week is European Week Against Racism and today, 21st March, marks International Day Against Racism. This annual event was declared as a memorial by the United Nations following the 1960 murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in South Africa.

The Irish Network Against Racism (ENAR Ireland) is focusing its campaign for this week on Speaking Out Against Racism. A number of events are being held throughout the country, full details of which can be found on the ENAR Ireland website.

The Fingal Centre proudly supports the European Week Against Racism.

Volunteers needed for Bag Packing

We need volunteers for two bag packing fundraisers. The bag-packing will take place in Dunnes Stores, Charlestown Shopping Centre at the following times:

Thursday 19th April, 6pm – 10pm.
Friday 20th April, 10:30am – 6pm.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact Sheila Deery on 01 884 5228. You can also call in to The Fingal Centre to put your name down for either (or both) bag packing events.

Please give what you can to support us in these difficult times. Your generosity is vital in helping us to maintain, improve and expand the services we provide to the people of Finglas and the surrounding areas.

Please note, The Fingal Centre will be closed on Monday the 19th of March, reopening on Tuesday the 20th at 9am.

Finglas Heritage Walks

We’ve been working on a project to promote the history and heritage of Finglas Village with walking tours of the area. As a starting point, we’ve set up a small website with the first of these tours mapped out: Finglas Heritage Walk.

In time, we hope to expand this site to feature more information on the history of the area, as well as additional routes and points of interest. It is also hoped that we’ll be able to provided guided walking tours of Finglas as part of the services we provide here at The Fingal Centre.

For now, we’d love to hear your opinions of the work we’ve done so far, so please click through onto Finglas Heritage Walk and let us know what you think. Corrections, suggestions and information are all welcome, as are photos or any other material.

The Fingal Centre is holding an Easter raffle and we need your support. Tickets can be purchased from staff on reception for only €2 each. We have some ‘eggscellent’ hampers to be won (and we’ll have photos of them soon).

The prize draw takes place on Thursday 5th April 2012.

Celebrating International Women’s Day 2012

Thursday 8th of March is International Women’s Day and The Fingal Centre will be holding some special events to mark the occasion. All are welcome to join us from 10am to 1pm.

As part of the celebration, we will be holding two workshops in pampering, relaxation and image consultancy. These workshops will run from 10am to 11am and from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Those interested are asked to call into us at 5 Cardiffsbridge Road and sign up at Reception, or e-mail info@thefingalcentre.ie.

Those who don’t wish to avail of these workshops should feel free to drop in for refreshments and a chat any time from 10am to 1pm.

Suicide Alertness Training

Safe Talk Suicide Alertness Training is being offered to 20 of our staff members. This training is free of charge and will take place on Monday 26th March 2012 from 9:45am to 1pm in Dublin City Council Civic Offices, Mellowes Road.

About Safe Talk Suicide Alertness Training

Aim
The purpose of safeTALK is to learn the basic steps to recognise persons with thoughts of suicide and how to connect them with suicide helping resources.

Objectives
safeTALK suicide alert helpers are trained to:

Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide.
Identify people who have thoughts of suicide.
Apply the TALK steps to connect a person with suicidal thoughts to people and agencies that can help.

Course Content
Expect to be challenged. Expect to have feelings. Expect to be hopeful.

See powerful reminders of why it is important to be suicide alert. Ask questions and enter discussions. Learn clear and practical information on what to do.

Practice the TALK (Tell, Ask, Listen, and KeepSafe) – steps by which you can connect a person who has suicidal thoughts to suicide first-aid intervention caregivers.

Target Group
Suitable for everyone who wants to help prevent suicide and is prepared to become a suicide-alert helper.
